Affordable housing without compromise

This 89-unit seniors affordable housing project in Surrey demonstrates how thoughtful design can deliver dignity and quality while respecting budget constraints. The exterior embraces an urban contemporary aesthetic, featuring a blend of grey, off-white, and masonry tones complemented by warm wood accents.

Feature projections introduce bursts of colour to the façade, while stepped elements at the entrance and raised corner features enhance the architectural character. The top floor is finished in a lighter tone that allows the building to recede visually into the skyline, reducing its perceived scale and integrating it sensitively into the surrounding neighbourhood.

Carefully selected design elements and durable materials achieve affordability goals without compromising aesthetic appeal or longevity. Wood-frame construction provides structural efficiency, with exterior finishes including brick, wood elements, and cementitious cladding that balance long-term performance with visual warmth. Through strategic material selection and programming attentive to seniors’ needs, this project is a prime example of how affordable housing can maintain genuine design quality while creating environments that support aging in place with dignity and community connection.
