Grounding landscape architecture in its environment

Our Approach
Collaborative, inclusive, and responsive
To create outdoor spaces that are both environmentally sustainable and visually striking, each project must carefully consider site topography, stormwater management, sun exposure, climate, and municipal and client requirements. Planting is selected for resilience, low maintenance, and visual harmony with the architectural vision. Outdoor areas, such as courtyards, streetscapes, rooftop patios, parks, and playgrounds are thoughtfully designed to support both design intent and end-user needs.
Phase 1
Initial consultation
We begin by understanding your vision, values, and goals. We discuss style preferences, budget, timeline, and site-specific considerations, including location, climate, and topography. This foundation sets the tone for a successful collaborative project.
Phase 2
Site analysis
Our team conducts a thorough site review to assess natural and regulatory factors, such as sun orientation, soil health, drainage patterns, existing vegetation, and regulatory requirements. This allows us to design responsibly and creatively, honouring the site’s natural character, while addressing any challenges.
Phase 3
Schematic design
In this phase, we explore a range of preliminary design ideas. These concepts respond to your vision while organizing key features such as outdoor spaces, pathways, and plantings into a cohesive, experiential framework. We prepare landscape concept drawings, planting and hardscape precedents as part of the development permit submission.
Phase 4
Construction documents
We refine the selected concept into detailed plans and construction documents, which communicate design intent to contractors and work to minimize misinterpretation. These documents integrate input from engineering and specialty consultants and form the technical basis for accurate pricing and municipal approvals. We work with our integrated team to manage the coordination of permit applications and the development of construction drawings and documentation that support a smooth municipal review process.
Phase 5
Services during construction
During construction, we provide ongoing landscape architecture support through site reviews, coordination with the contractor and consultants, and review of shop drawings and change documentation to promote design integrity, quality, and compliance with project requirements.
Phase 6
Post-construction review
As the project nears completion, we conduct detailed site reviews and prepare a list of remaining tasks. This makes sure all design elements are installed as intended and the project meets our standards for quality. Upon completion, we review the finished landscape with you, address any final concerns, and provide documentation such as maintenance guidelines and as-built drawings, if required. We will also inform you of a recommended 1-year plant warranty review, so the project thrives for years to come.
Once construction is complete, we can help protect the lasting success of your project’s landscape. These services, which go beyond standard practice, promote long-term stewardship and protect the integrity of the landscape design for years to come.
