Modular innovation in inner-city Calgary

We’re proud to collaborate with Attainable Homes Calgary and ATCO Structures on Sunnyside, a transformative, modular apartment project that represents a new era of attainable housing in Calgary. This forward-thinking development will deliver 198 modular homes, including one, two, and two-bedroom plus den units, for working Calgarians in the inner-city community of Hillhurst Sunnyside. The project brings prefabricated homes to market with the speed, certainty, and quality that ATCO’s factory construction offers, demonstrating how innovative building methods can address housing challenges while minimizing on-site disruption.

The dynamic façade treatment incorporates metallic curvilinear waves that soften the building’s appearance, creating visual interest and depth. An exterior palette of silver, grey, blue, and green tones establishes an inviting presence while referencing the nearby Bow River, connecting the architecture to its natural context. Strategic site planning allowed for a 5,920 sf outdoor amenity space that is shared with the public, enhancing both resident experience and community connection.

Later this year, each unit will be craned into place, bringing much-needed attainable housing to Calgary’s urban core with minimal neighbourhood impact. This project demonstrates what’s possible when innovation, collaboration, and community impact come together through thoughtful design.
