A bell tower that anchors the neighbourhood

St. Clare of Assisi Parish Church is an 800-person-capacity worship facility in Coquitlam that honours the client’s aspiration for a traditional Romanesque Revivalist design while meeting the contemporary needs of a growing parish community. The church includes a choir loft, mezzanine, and a distinctive bell tower that serves as a recognizable neighbourhood landmark, reinforcing the building’s presence and spiritual purpose within the broader community. The project advances the Archdiocese’s vision of establishing a church, school, and rectory on every parish property, contributing to a complete and unified campus.

The building combines a wood-frame and steel structure with a long-span glulam roof system, creating an open, uninterrupted sanctuary essential for worship and congregational gathering. An Exterior Insulated Finishing System provides thermal efficiency and design flexibility, allowing the traditional architectural forms to be realized cost-effectively. The exterior embraces classic Romanesque elements including rounded arches, stacked massing, and a symmetrical composition that conveys timelessness and reverence. An underground parkade supports the congregation’s practical needs while preserving surface area for landscaping and accessible site design.
